Q: Don’t be shy, introduce yourself.

A:Hello! I’m Jess and I’m the Junior Creative here at Vyde.

Q: Junior Creative you say…what do you actually do?

A: I’m lucky enough to be a part of the Creative Team! This includes my fellow junior, Maria, and our leader, Tia-Ama. I spend my days designing and building creatives, which I love.

Although I’m a creative, I’m also client facing – and as I’m still a bit new, I’m still figuring out client calls and emails! It’s a bit nerve wracking but I’m definitely getting the hang of it.

Q: Best bit of your job?

A: It’s definitely my co-workers – everyone on the team has amazing personalities and excellent senses of humour! Workwise, it's definitely getting to be creative everyday and the fact that no day is the same.

Q: Okay – what’s a part of your job that could suddenly vanish and you wouldn’t cry about it?

A: It’s probably my previously mentioned client calls! I can be a bit shy sometimes so it can definitely be scary presenting to a bunch of people I don’t know. However…everybody is always pretty nice so it’s just going to take some getting used to.

Q: What’s a fact about media/advertising that everyone should know?

A: That it’s hard to read sentences in all capital letters! It’s random but a lot of advertisements use all capitals. Our brains actually find it harder to process all capitalised words because the shapes are less familiar, and our brains love the curves.

I personally hate reading all capitals so I guess that must be why! HERE’S AN EXAMPLE.

Q: What’s your favorite thing about working at Vyde? (And no, you can’t say the coffee machine).

A: Like I said before, we have an amazing team! If we’re not laughing and enjoying the day, we’re  collaborating and discovering new ways to make what we do even better. All of our personalities meld really well. I’ve personally never worked in a team that gets on as well as we all do, so that’s definitely the best part.

Q: Time for a quickfire round: go-to-afternoon snack?

A: It’s always cookies.

Q: Loudest person in the office?

A: It depends on the day but Sellars (Christian, VP Revenue & Partnerships) has an excellent habit of belting out Disney songs and dancing around the office. I would change nothing.

Q: Cake Wednesdays or Drinks Thursdays?

A: Cake Wednesdays, in my opinion.

Q: And, finally, what don’t they tell you about being a Junior Creative?

A: It’s okay to not know how to do everything – and it’s okay to mess up, because it just teaches you how to get it right next time.

A job is where you come to learn and if you’re lucky enough to end up in a company like Vyde, you’re surrounded by people who can support you in a way that shows you that you can actually do everything.

Also – you rarely mess up, but when you do, it’s more than okay!
